Excitement is in the air as the 59th edition of the Gran Día de la Vela – Bufete Frau approaches, a regatta that has left an indelible mark on the sporting and social calendar of the Balearic Islands.
This annual event, which will take place from August 19 to 27 in waters near the Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA), once again promises a show of nautical skills and camaraderie between top-level local and national sailors.

The manager of the CNA, Ferran Muniesa, has emphasized the large number of participating vessels. With a total of 575 registered boats and more than 700 participating athletes, this event is presented as a vibrant celebration of the maritime spirit and love of sailing.
The regatta, considered one of the oldest and most important in the Balearic Islands, covers 12 classes with their various categories. Among them, the exciting competition in the Optimist and ILCA classes stands out, which have attracted 345 and 135 registered boats respectively.
One of the most notable aspects of this year is the generosity of Sa Calma Boats , which has provided a boat to allow parents of sailors to closely follow their children’s exploits on the water.
The presence of nearly a thousand people, including sailors, organisers and family members, underlines the importance and social impact of this competition.
The unwavering support of Bufete Frau, sponsor of the regatta for 15 consecutive years, has been crucial to the success and growing prominence of the event. The close collaboration between Bufete Frau and Club Nàutic S’Arenal has helped to consolidate the Great Day of Sailing – Bufete Frau as an unmissable date in the regatta calendar at a national level.

For sailing enthusiasts, the Big Sailing Day represents much more than a sporting competition. It is a meeting where passion for the sea, sailing and camaraderie converge in a unique experience. As Toni Frau, representing Bufete Frau, points out, “The Big Day of Sailing is the regatta of the summer”, and their support for this event is not only a sign of corporate commitment, but also a reflection of the emotional attachment that the Frau family feels towards the CNA and sailing.

The mayoress of Llucmajor, Xisca Lascolas, underlines the importance of the event for the community, highlighting its value as a platform that promotes sport as a positive form of entertainment for young people. Furthermore, the regatta is not only about competition, but also about solidarity, as evidenced by the XX Travesía Sa Milla CNA – Cala Blava, an exciting open-water swimming event that will donate its profits to the ELA Balears association.

The Gran Día de la Vela – Bufete Frau is not just a regatta; it is an event that brings people together, celebrates maritime prowess and marks the start of a new sporting season in the Balearics. Its long history and focus on sporting excellence and community connection make it a true treasure in the sailing world. As we prepare for another exciting edition, the spirit of the sea and the passion for sailing come together once again in this spectacular gathering.
