The Princess Sofia Trophy enters Competition Mode.

The weather complicated the opening day of the 52 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar for the 597 Olympic boats in the Bay of Palma.

The iQFOiL Men glided over the foils to complete one of the four races on the schedule to open their locker room. In very difficult weather conditions, the young Mallorcan Nacho Baltasar managed to come in fifth in his heat to place thirteenth in a provisional classification dominated by the powerful French fleet.

Back on land, the Spanish windsurfer admitted to being very happy with his performance: “I’m very happy with my performance. The truth is that everything aligned in my favour: I did what I had to do at the right time. Little wind like today’s in the bay of Palma is favourable for me, because I am not yet at my ideal weight.”.

The rest of the classes competing on this first day (iQFOiL Women, 470 Mixed, ILCA 7 and ILCA 6) tried without success. In ILCA 7, the Yellow group was able to finish one race, but the score did not go on the scoreboard because the other two groups did not complete the task.

iQFOiL Women windsurfer from Seville, Pilar Lamadrid, explained that they were not able to sail with the same wind as the men’s fleet: “In came the wind of the storm that was expected for the boys. We went out in the afternoon in the rain, and when the wind of the storm was dying. We saw a beautiful rainbow, but we had no wind at all. After waiting in the water for an hour, we were sent ashore.”.

In 470 Mixed, the Committee gave several starts with Embat, but the races could not be finished due to the arrival of the squall.
